Googling to the Moon

From The Daily Galaxy:

It looks like Google has found a new way to siphon off some of this extra cash they have lying around, by initiating a $30 million prize to the first private company that can ‘successfully’ land a robotic rover on the moon and send back a gigabyte of images and video to Earth.

It was only Wednesday that Google announced a $10 million incentive for companies involved in car production to up their efforts to get a plug-in electric car rolling out the door. Now, Google is pushing for private missions to the moon, which will prove a major boost for the private space industry.

It is nice to see multibillion dollar corporations do some good for a change instead of making bombs, missiles and other exotic ways of commiting genocide.

Maybe Google wants to get in on the ground floor on the Make the Moon a Back-up Drive of Civilization Project.

It’s something right up their alley anyway.
