Weird Hexagon Shape on North Pole, Now Propellers, What’s Going On at Saturn?

On a hat tip from the ever-lovin’ Interstellar Housewife, Deirdre O’Lavery, I was treated to this little tidbit about the planet Saturn; Propellers in its rings.

Hexagon shapes at Saturn’s North Pole, now propellers.

What the blue blazes is going on here?

  1. Aww. You’re sweet. 🙂

    1. Thanx for the heads-up kiddo, maybe I can return the favor sometime! 😉

      1. Now that you mention it, my shoulders are kind of sore.

I could be wrong but I think this one was examined in detail as it struck astronomers as an anomaly as well. I think the bottom line was a meteorite or something similar cut a swath through the dust ring.

P.S ( I forgot this one) One of the observed behaviors of these rings of dust and ice is they theoretically can build up an electrostatic charge and as a result, flares can be seen. Another possibility, although I think this first was confirmed.

    1. It’s amazing to see symmetry in nature and to see such examples on a planetary scale blows my mind!

Somehow, theorizing these are examples of planetary engineering by a long dead civilization is just as cool though. 😉

  4. It is peculiar, but yes, I had also read what Bruce read and figure it is probably natural, but there’s still 2% of me that’s like ‘Hrm’.

    1. It’s the ‘hrm’ part that’s more fun in my view.

But Mother Nature is quite capable of ‘fun’ stuff too.

Witness the spiral shapes of hurricanes, cyclones, typhoons and galaxies.

  5. It’s The Big “E” herself, a.k.a.: NCC-1701 – coming out of hiding to get that evil Romulan, Nero!!!
