The Black Iron Prison and Writing

I just finished reading Philip K. Dick’s VALIS a couple of days ago and the effort left me more than a little dazed.

The ending was a little weak I thought, but the tome was an ecumenical hodge-podge of freaked-out genius that was Dick and unique in science-fiction literature.

I spoke briefly about this last week (“The Empire Never Ended“) and I used Dick’s term ‘The Black Iron Prison’ in conjuction with it. PKD used it to describe the Evil Empire and how it keeps its people in constant despair, blurred sense of reality and confusion.

Much as today is described.

We all know that 9/11/2001 represents an event that set other wheels in motion. Wheels in which many evil things were done in the name of all of the good that’s in humanity. And that now, “orwell speak” (war=peace, good=evil, etc.) is common vernacular that was used then to hynoptise the American population into believing they were holy in their ‘righteous might.’

What would Philip Dick think of all this today?

After all, he believed the downfall of Richard Nixon was the beginning of a new enlightened era of peace and gnosis (knowlege).

Dick, like most human beings, overlook the small details. He was a literary genius bar-none and his intuitiveness into the strange and esoteric bordered on the prophetic, so how could he have missed Nixon’s henchmen Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld?

As human beings, most of us anyways, prefer to look forward to better times than the ones we’re experiencing at the time and PKD was no different.

He was looking forward to escaping his Black Iron Prison and seeing the jailor put away for good.

Unfortunately, he neglected to see the jailor’s students/apprentices.

Today, we have the alternative media of the Internet to balance out the control mechanisms used by the corporate held media. Oh sure, most of it is undisciplined trash and almost all of it is personal opinion, but there is gold to be panned from its muddy streams, if one is willing to work and practice at it.

So how do we eventually escape from today’s Black Iron Prison and the world elite who want to evolve it into a surveillance Panopticon?

Keep doing what we’ve been doing of course, by ranting, raving, opinionating and doing most of all what an informed citizenry must do in order to survive.

Write.

Philip K. Dick would approve.

St. Ronnie’s ghost, our Police State and the ever moving Earth

St. Ronnie Raygun visits his wife:

The former US First Lady, Nancy Reagan, says she still “sees” her husband Ronald, and talks to him.

She told Vanity Fair magazine: “At night time, if I wake up, I think Ronnie is there, and I start to talk to him… And I see him.”

Mrs Reagan, 87, also spoke about how much she still missed her husband, who died in 2004.

And she mentioned that the present First Lady, Michelle Obama, called for advice on running the White House.

Mrs Reagan’s suggestion was to hold more state dinners – the Reagans held more than 50, compared to just six while George W Bush was in office.

“Just have a good time and do a little business. And that is the way Washington works,” she told the new first lady.

Must be he doesn’t appear to Rush Limpballs, Newt Gin-Grinch or Glenn Pecker Becker, I haven’t heard any of those clowns bragging about getting a visit from the Gipper to get his blessings.

Perhaps that should tell the GOPers something?

More ‘this will happen to you’ if you don’t obey department:

A traffic stop for speeding in Travis County, Texas, led to the Tasering of a 72-year-old great-grandmother by a deputy. Feisty Kathryn Winkfein apparently so frightened the law-enforcement officer when she “used some profanity” and “got violent” that he felt it necessary to subdue her with a potentially dangerous jolt of electricity.

Winkfein was reportedly doing 60 in a construction zone where the posted speed limit was 45 when she was pulled over. She was ticketed but declined to sign the ticket, leading the police officer to place her under arrest lest civilization collapse for want of the surrender of a penny’s worth of ink.

At this point, the stories diverge. According to Precinct 3 Constable Richard McCain, Winkfein cursed and refused to cooperate. She says nothing of the sort occurred. “I wasn’t argumentative, I was not combative. This is a lie,” the woman told a news reporter for Fox 7.

More and more these assholes are using ‘taserings’ of helpless victims to get the message spread across the country that ‘messin’ with da laww’ won’t be tolerated.

Well, guess what, it’s just going to get more folks angry and next time the ‘offender’ might not be so helpless.

Earth is moving away from the Sun?

Russian dynamicists Gregoriy A. Krasinsky and Victor A. Brumberg to calculate, in 2004, that the sun and Earth are gradually moving apart. It’s not much – just 15 cm per year – but since that’s 100 times greater than the measurement error, something must really be pushing Earth outward. But what? One idea is that the Sun is losing enough mass, via fusion and the solar wind, to gradually be losing its gravitational grip (see Astronomical unit may need to be redefined). Other possible explanations include a change in the gravitational constant G, the effects of cosmic expansion, and even the influence of dark matter. None have proved satisfactory.

Small tides

But Takaho Miura of Hirosaki University in Japan and three colleagues think they have the answer. In an article submitted to the European journal Astronomy & Astrophysics, they argue that the sun and Earth are literally pushing each other away due to their tidal interaction.

It’s the same process that’s gradually driving the moon’s orbit outward: Tides raised by the moon in our oceans are gradually transferring Earth’s rotational energy to lunar motion. As a consequence, each year the moon’s orbit expands by about 4 cm and Earth’s rotation slows by 0.000017 second.

Okay, I get that. But isn’t that a good thing?

According to a previous article in New Scientist, we would need to move Earth away from an expanding Sun anyways in a couple of billion years, assuming there’s baseline humans, or other intelligences living here still.

Why is the Earth moving away from the Sun?

Journalist Jim P. Tucker Jr. reports from the latest Bilderberg Conference:

DISPATCH RECEIVED MAY 14, 9:30 A.M. EDT

Bilderberg luminaries all appeared grim-faced as they stepped from their limos on to the grounds of the Nafsika Astir Palace Hotel in Vouliagmeni, Greece. They arrived from the airport in nearby Athens, escorted by police with sirens blaring. The world economy is at the top of the Bilderberg agenda. Bilderberg will debate how to exploit the global recession and fabrications about “swine flu” to advance its world government goals. Bilderberg’s agenda has expanded, even as public awareness has grown.

Sources within Bilderberg said President Obama will be instructed to make another effort to get the United States to sign on to the International Criminal Court. The ICC treaty, if ratified by the Senate, would be superior to the Constitution, able to overrule Congress and the Supreme Court and impose “world law” on America.

Bilderberg leaders said they understood the effort would have to be handled with “subtle delicacy” because of the Senate’s traditional hostility to joining the ICC.

I don’t think this Senate, or any Senate elected in 2010 will approve joining the ICC.

The country is still way conservative, despite what the GOPers say about the Dems.

Professor Roubini, of New York University’s Stern business school, believes that while such a major change is some way off, the Chinese government is laying the ground for the yuan’s ascendance.Known as “Dr Doom” for his negative stance, Prof Roubini argues that China is better placed than the US to provide a reserve currency for the 21st century because it has a large current account surplus, focused government and few of the economic worries the US faces.

In a column in the New York Times, Prof Roubini warns that with the proposal for a new international reserve currency via the International Monetary Fund, Beijing has already begun to take steps to usurp the greenback.

China will soon want to see the yuan included in the International Monetary Fund’s special drawing rights “basket”, he warns, as well as seeing it “used as a means of payment in bilateral trade.”

Well, China did call for a ‘basket of currencies’ to be the default international money of choice earlier this year because of the declining US economy and dollar.

Could ‘Dr. Doom’ be right?

Land of the “Free”, eh?

A study designed to rank countries in terms of how aggressively they monitor their populations electronically, has placed the US as 6th and the UK as 5th on a global index.

The two countries lag behind only China, North Korea, Belarus and Russia in terms of governmental surveillance.

Then you have the ‘if you don’t break the law, you don’t have anything to worry about’ crowd.

They’re either crypto-fascists or clueless.

Probably both.
